SMIG: A test environment for safer and more efficient mines
In the mining industry, the need for automation and digitization is growing. Among other things, the mining companies want to remove their staff from production in order to improve safety and increase efficiency. SMIG – Integrated smart test environment for the mining industry – is a test bed for new technology that enables safer workplaces and more efficient mining operations. Jens Eliasson from ThingWave spoke at this year’s Automation Summit with PiiA Inspiration about the project and especially about the work package “Digitalized ground support.”
Luleå University of Technology leads the project and works together with ABB, Algoryx Simulation, BnearIT, Boliden Mineral, Epiroc Rock Drills, Ericsson, IBM, Nordic Rock Tech Centre, Sandvik SRP, Siemens, Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Co, ThingWave, Umeå university, Uppsala university and Volvo Construction Equipment.
